About the training practice
At Martock and South Petherton we feel privileged to practice in an area of such outstanding natural beauty which certainly softens the blow from the challenges one can be faced in general practice. Bristol, Bath, Exeter and Exmoor are all within an hour’s drive, whilst the south coast is only half an hour away.
We hold regular administrative and educational meetings and the registrar is encouraged to attend and contribute to as many of these as possible. We try to create a learning atmosphere within the practice which includes everyone from the partners and nurses to the reception staff. We aim to provide the registrar with the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of patient care and to develop their own skills in a way which will make their practice rewarding and most importantly fun.
We have the usual range of attached staff including counsellors and midwives, and a number of visiting practitioners (conventional and alternative). The whole team is committed to being a training practice and we encourage the registrar to take advantage of the wide-ranging skills and special interests the clinical personnel have to offer.
In summary, as one of our recent registrars wrote: “You can expect to gain useful clinical experience in a busy practice with an older than average population. As a registrar you will feel valued and actively encouraged to contribute to the team.”
